Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments issued a notice on the issuance of the "Special Action Plan for Energy Conservation and carbon Reduction in the Steel Industry".

The content pointed out that strict energy conservation review and environmental assessment approval of fixed asset investment projects, new and expanded steel smelting projects must reach the energy efficiency benchmark level and environmental performance level A, the main energy equipment must reach the advanced level of energy efficiency. Resolutely suspend the approval and construction of steel projects that do not meet the requirements of industrial planning, capacity replacement, coal consumption reduction and replacement, total control of key pollutants, and regional reduction of pollutant discharge.

From 2024 to 2025, about 20 million tons of standard coal will be saved and about 53 million tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced through the implementation of energy saving and carbon reduction transformation in the steel industry and the renewal of energy using equipment. By the end of 2030, the energy efficiency of major processes in the steel industry will be further improved, the energy efficiency of major energy-using equipment will basically reach an advanced level, the comprehensive energy consumption and carbon emissions per ton of steel will be significantly reduced, the energy use structure will continue to be optimized, breakthroughs will be made in advanced energy-saving and carbon-reducing technologies such as blast furnace oxygen enrichment technology and hydrogen metallurgy technology, and remarkable results will be achieved in the green, low-carbon and high-quality development of the industry.
